The Collio
In Collio you can enjoy an extremely favourable climate for vine growing. The Julian Pre-Alps provide effective protection from northerly winds and the proximity of the Adriatic coast favours the persistence of a mild and temperate microclimate. The difference in temperature between day and night gives the wines their characteristic aromatic note.
Aware of the need of a certification for sustainable production, in 2020 the Komjanc winery joined the National Quality System for Integrated Production and certificated the entire production process and its products.

Ponca
Marl, or ponca as we call it, is a rock formation that tends to disintegrate easily due to weather conditions and tillage. This disintegration first produces flaky fragments, which then become the ideal soil for winemaking.

Biodiversity
Our vineyards have always been covered with grass to improve the soil structure and slow down erosion.
Next to the vineyards, we like keeping to keep some meadows, acacia, oak, hornbeam and ash woods populated by the local fauna, in order to respect the natural balance between man and nature.

Our wines
The estate vineyards cover an area of 24 hectares. Special attention is paid to local varieties such as Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Picolit, and Schioppettino as well as to international varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Traminer Aromatico, Pinot Nero, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Komjanc wines are elegant and typical thanks to hand-picking and traditional vinification. These processes respect the perfect time of ripeness. Vinification, under controlled temperature, preserves the characteristics and aromas of the grape.
Thanks to the collaboration with Gianni Menotti as oenological consultant since 2015, Komjanc winery has significantly grown up, improving its quality in the vineyards as well in cellar.
